Kolhapur,  is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Before Indian Independence, Kolhapur was the capital of a princely state known as Kolhapur State.

As per provisional reports of Census India, the population of  Kolhapur City in 2011 is 5,49,236 (5.49 Lakhs)  of which the male population is 2,80,366 and the female population is 2,68,870
