Purnia is a city in the Indian state of Bihar. It is the largest city in northeastern Bihar also known as Kosi- Seemanchal area. Its 6th largest city of Bihar by population &  situated at 302 kilometres from Patna, as well as 171 km from Siliguri, 90 km from Bhagalpur.

As per provisional reports of Census India, the population of  Purnia City in 2011 is 280,547 (2.80 Lakhs) of which the male population is 148,021 and the female population is 132,526

LITERACY RATE

The average literacy rate of Purnia City in 2011 was 74.48 %. If things are looked out at gender wise, male and female literacy was 79.36 % and 68.98%. respectively. Total literate in Purnia city was 178,381 of which 100,735 are males while 77,646 are females.
