Moradabad is a city in the western Uttar Pradesh State of India. It’s at a distance of 167 km from New Delhi. Moradabad is situated on the banks of the Ramganga river, and also known as Pital Nagri (“Brass City”) for its famous brass handicrafts industry. With a population of nearly 1 million, it’s the 9th most populated city in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

As per provisional reports of Census India, the population of Moradabad City in 2011 is 887,871 (8.87 Lakhs) of which the male population is 464,580  and the female population is 423,291


The initial provisional data released by census India 2011, shows that the density of Moradabad for 2011 is 11838 people per sq. km. The Moradabad city administers an area is 75 sq. km.


The average literacy rate of Moradabad City in 2011 was 68.75 %. If things are looked out at gender-wise, male and female literacy was 72.22 % and   64.95 %. respectively. The total literate in Moradabad city was 530,584  of which 291,605 are males while 238,979  are females.

In 2011 a new district named Sambhal district was formed with two sub-districts of Moradabad district. The rest of Moradabad district has a population of 3,126,507.
