Thane city is located in the Maharashtra state of India & the taluka of Thane District. Its governed by Municipal Corporation which comes under Mumbai Metropolitan Region. With a Population Close to 2 million, Thane city is the 15th most populated city in India. 

As per the provisional data of the 2011 census, Thane City had a population of 1,841,448 (18.41 Lakhs) & Estimated Population of Thane City in 2022 is 21 lakh or 2.1 million

As per the provisional data of the 2011 census, Thane City had a population of 18,41,448 (18.41 Lakhs) out of which the male population was 9,75,399 and the female population was 8,66,089 

DENSITY

The initial provisional data released by census India 2011, shows that the density of Thane for 2011 is 13000 people per sq. km. Thane city administers area is 147 sq. km

LITERACY RATE

The average literacy rate of Thane Thane City in 2011 was 89.41%. If things are looked out at gender wise, male and female literacy was 92.14% and 86.33% respectively. Total literate in Thane city was 7,93,360 of which 4,23,122 are males while 3,70,238 are females.

SEX RATIO

With regards to the Sex Ratio in Thane, it stood at 888 per 1000 males. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per the latest reports of Census 2011 Directorate. In the 2011 census, the child sex ratio is 908 girls per 1000 boys

CHILD POPULATION

In census enumeration, data regarding child under 0-6 age were also collected. There were a total of 2,09,879 children under the age of 0-6 years. Of total 1,10,004 are boys while 99,875 are girls. Child Sex Ratio as per census 2011 was 908. In 2011, Children under 0-6 formed 11.40 % of the total population of Thane City.

Thane is the Third largest populated district in Maharashtra. Major cities in the district are Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli, Bhiwandi, Ulhasnagar, Ambarnath, Badlapur, Murbad, and Shahapur.

Thane district is on the North of the Konkan division. According to census 2011, It’s the most populated district of India. ( Later in 2014 it got burficated split into two districts). As per the provisional data of the 2011 census, Thane District had a population of 11,060,148 out of which the male population was 5,865,078 and the female population was 5,195,070. Literacy rate is 84.53% & sex ration (females per 1000) is 886.

In August 2014 the district was split into two with the creation of a new Palghar district, leaving the reduced Thane district with a 2011 Census population of 8,070,032 (80 lakh). As per the census estimates the Population of Thane District in 2022 is 92 Lakks or 9.2 million
