As per provisional reports of Census India, the population of Coimbatore City in 2011 was 1,050,721 (10.50 Lakhs) of which the male population was 526,163 and the female population was 524,558.


The initial provisional data released by Census India 2011, shows that the density of Coimbatore for 2011 is 9950 people per sq. km. Coimbatore city administers area is 105.60 sq. km.


The average literacy rate of Coimbatore City in 2011 was 91.30%. If things are looked at gender-wise, male and female literacy was 94.46% and 88.15% respectively. Total literate in Coimbatore city was 866,098 of which 447,616  are males while 418482 are females.


With regards to the Sex Ratio in Coimbatore, it stood at 997 per 1000 males. The average national sex ratio in India is 997 as per the latest reports of the Census 2011 Directorate. In the 2011 census, the child sex ratio is 953 girls per 1000 boys


In census enumeration, data regarding children under 0-6 years of age were also collected. There were a total of 102,069 children under the age of 0-6 years. Of the total 52,275 are boys while 49,794 are girls. Child Sex Ratio as per census 2011 was 953. In 2011, Children under 0-6 formed  9.71 % of the total population of Coimbatore City.
