As per the provisional reports of Census India, the population of Kolkata City in 2011 is 44,96,694 (44.96 Lakhs) of which the male population is 23,56,766 and the female population is 21,39,928 

DENSITY

The initial provisional data released by census India 2011, shows that the density of Kolkata for 2011 is 22000 people per sq. km. Kolkata city administers an area is 206 sq. km

LITERACY RATE

The average literacy rate of Kolkata City in 2011 was 86.31%. If things are looked out at gender wise, male and female literacy was 88.34% and 84.06% respectively. 

SEX RATIO

With regards to the Sex Ratio in Kolkata, it stood at 908 per 1000 males. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per the latest reports of Census 2011 Directorate. In the 2011 census, the child sex ratio is 933 girls per 1000 boys

CHILD POPULATION

In census enumeration, data regarding child under 0-6 age were also collected. There were a total of 3,39,323 children under the age of 0-6 years. Of total 1,75,564 are boys while 1,63,759 are girls. Child Sex Ratio as per census 2011 was 933. In 2011, Children under 0-6 formed 7.54 % of the total population of Kolkata City

Kolkata Metropolitan Area is the urban agglomeration of the city of Kolkata. It’s the third-most populous metropolitan area / Urban Agglomeration in India after Delhi and Mumbai.  The area covers 4 municipal corporations & 37 municipalities. Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Howrah & Hooghly districts are part of the Kolkata Metropolitan Area

As per the provisional data of the 2011 census, Kolkata Metropolitan Area had a population of 1,40,35,959 (1.40 Crore). The estimated population of the Kolkata Metropolitian Area in 2022 is 1.48 crore

The literacy rate was 87.54%.  Male Female Sex ratio is 935. The Total Numbers of infants in the age category of  0-6 years are 11,58,543. The Child Sex ratio is 947
