Jammu is the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir and the second most populous city in the union territory after Srinagar. It is an important administrative, cultural, and commercial center of the Jammu region.
According to the provisional Census 2011 reports, Jammu City had a population of 5.02 lakh (5,02,197). Over the years, steady urban development and migration have contributed to its population growth.
Based on recent trends, the estimated population of Jammu in 2026 is around 6.50 lakh.
