Haiti, officially the Republic of Haiti and formerly known as Hayti is a country located on the island of Hispaniola in the Greater Antilles archipelago of the Caribbean Sea. It occupies the western three-eighths of the island which it shares with the Dominican Republic. It’s the third-largest country by area and the most populous country in the Caribbean.

Haiti is a Christian-majority country and 86.4% of the population adheres to Christianity. Roman Catholics (56.8%) is the largest denomination followed by Protestant churches (29.6%)
Non-Christian faiths account for 3% and include Islam, Hinduism, Baháʼí Faith, Jews, and African traditional faiths. The remaining 10.6% are classified as unaffiliated, which can mean agnostic, atheist, or “nothing in particular.”

Haiti Ethnic population
Haiti is predominantly inhabited by people of African descent, commonly referred to as ‘blacks’. A minority of the population are mulattoes, who are of mixed European and African ancestry and generally belong to the country’s wealthier class. There is also a small number of people of European descent. Haiti’s culture, language, and ethnicity are distinct from other Caribbean and Latin American countries, particularly those that speak Spanish or English in the region.
