Dewas is an important city in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh. It was formerly the seat of two princely states—Dewas Junior and Dewas Senior—ruled by the Puar clan of the Marathas. The city derives its name from the Devi Vaishnavi (Tekri) Hill, which houses temples of Tulja Bhawani, Chamunda Mata, and Kalika Mata.
