Christianity is the majority religion in Honduras and 85% of the population adheres to Christianity. Catholics accounted for 46% of the Guatemalan population. About 39% of Guatemalans are Protestant. About 2% of people follow Indigenous religions and 13% don’t follow or are unaffiliated with any religion.

Honduras Ethinic population

About 90% of the population in this country are mestizo, which means that they are of mixed Spanish and Indian ancestry. Along the Caribbean coast, where English is commonly spoken, there is a significant presence of black people of West Indian origin and Garifuna (also known as Black Caribs).

The majority of American Indians belong to the Lenca tribe and currently reside in the southwestern part of the country, near the Guatemala border, which was once the hub of Indian civilization during pre-Columbian period. A few small groups of non-Spanish speaking Indians, such as the Jicaque, Miskito (Mosquito), and Paya still inhabit the northeast, although their population is declining.
