Telangana is the twelfth most populous state of India and has a diverse population of many religions & communities. At the census 2011, out of the 3.52 Crore population, around 3 crores (85.10%) have returned themselves as followers of the Hindu religion, 44.64 lakhs (12.69%) as Muslims or followers of Islam, 4.47 Lakhs (1.27%) as Christians. In addition, 0.68% Stated No religion & 0.28% are other religions.

Caste wise percentage in Telangana

Kapu is estimated to be the largest caste group in the region, forming roughly 14–16% of the population. They are followed by Madiga (9%), while Lambadi/Banjara (5–6%) and Yadav (4–5%) also make up notable shares. Several communities such as Bania/Agarwal/Komti, Mala, and Kalal are estimated at around 4% each, while Brahmins account for about 3%.

Medium-sized groups include Kurmi (2.42%) and Dhobi (2.20%), whereas smaller communities like Bhoi, Vaddar, Nai, Kumhar, Viswakarma, Koya, Sonar, Mutrasi, Munnur, and Lohar each contribute around 1–1.5% of the population. In addition, more than 200 other caste groups are present in the region, each with a population share below 1%, reflecting its highly diverse social composition.
