At the census 2011, out of the 4.93 Crore population, around 4.48 crores (90.87%) have returned themselves as followers of the Hindu religion, 36 lakhs (7.33%) as Muslims or followers of Islam, 6.82 Lakhs (1.38%) as Christians. In addition, 0.33% Stated as No religion and 0.09% are other religions.

Census 2011 provides official figures only for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) and was conducted before the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
