As per provisional reports of Census India, the population of Chandigarh City in 2011 was 9,61,587 (9.61 Lakhs) of which the male population was 5,25,629 and the female population was 4,35,958

The initial provisional data released by Census India 2011, shows that the density of Chandigarh is 9262 people per sq. km. Chandigarh administers area is 114 sq. km
LITERACY RATE
The average literacy rate of Chandigarh City in 2011 was 86.42%. If things are looked at gender-wise, male and female literacy was 90.26% and 81.75% respectively. Total literate in Chandigarh city was 7,39,784 of which 4,23,644 are males while 3,16,140 are females.
SEX RATIO
