Chhattisgarh has a diverse social composition with several major caste and community groups. Among them, the Gond tribe forms the largest group, accounting for about 20–22% of the population, followed by Yadav, Jatav/Satnami, and Teli communities at around 7-8% each.
Other notable groups include the Kurmi, Kawar, and Oraon (approximately 3–4%), as well as Brahmins, Panika, Bhoi, Rajputs, and Bania, each comprising roughly 2–3%. Communities such as Mali, Halba, Kalwar, Ganda/Gandawa, Lohar, Dhobi, Koshti, Lodha, and Kumhar (around 1-2% each) also contribute to the state’s social fabric. More than 100 other smaller subgroups each account for less than 1% of the population.
