Jammu and Kashmir are Union territories in the northern region of India. Earlier Jammu and Kashmir was a State, in October 2019 it was reconstituted into two union territories, ‘Jammu and Kashmir’ and ‘Ladakh’. As per the provisional reports of Census India, the population of Jammu and Kashmir in 2011 was 12,267,013 (1.22 Crore)

Top Cities in Jammu and Kashmir by Population

Jammu and Kashmir is home to several cities, each with its own unique history and culture. Srinagar, the summer capital of the state is the most populated with an estimated population of around 1.2 million people. It is known for its beautiful Dal Lake, Mughal Gardens, and rich cultural heritage. 

Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, comes in second with an estimated population of around 502,197 people. It is known for its historic temples, including the Vaishno Devi Temple, which is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in India.

Anantnag, located in the south of the Kashmir Valley, has an estimated population of around 109,433 people. Baramulla, located in the northern part of the Kashmir Valley, has an estimated population of around 101,550 people. 

Other Important Towns are Udhampur, located in the Jammu region, which has an estimated population of around 76,500 people; Pulwama, located in the southern part of the Kashmir Valley, has an estimated population of around 63,000 people and Kupwara, located in the northwestern part of the Kashmir Valley, has an estimated population of around 56,000 people.
