Tripura Historical Population

Tripura’s population has grown rapidly over the past century, particularly during the mid-20th century. In 1871, the region had a population of just over 65 thousand, reflecting its largely forested and sparsely populated landscape. The population increased steadily over the decades and saw a major surge between 1951 and 1961, when it grew by nearly 79%, largely due to migration and demographic changes after the partition of India. By the 2011 Census, Tripura’s population had reached about 36.7 lakh, though the growth rate has slowed in recent decades.
