Latvia, officially known as the Republic of Latvia, is a country located in the Baltic region of Northern Europe. As of January 1, 2021, Latvia’s population was 1,893,223, with a population density of 30 people per km². The country has an aging population, with 22.1% aged 65+ and a median age of 42.8 years.

Over the past decade, Latvia experienced a 20% population decline, largely due to net migration losses of 97,000 people. Ethnically, Latvians make up 62.7%, followed by Russians (24.5%), Belarusians (3.1%), Ukrainians (2.2%), and Poles (2.0%).

According to the UN World Population Prospects report, the population of Latvia in 2026 is projected to be 1,771,916 (1.77 million or 17.7 lakh).
