Mysore is a city in southern India in the state of Karnataka, India. Its also known as the cultural capital of Karnataka & Lies in the foothills of the Chamundi Hills about 145.2 km towards the southwest of Bangalore. It served as the capital city of the Kingdom of Mysore for nearly six centuries from 1399 until 1956. It is the third most populated city in Karnataka after Mysore & Hubli-Dharwad

As per provisional reports of Census India, the population of Mysore City in 2011 is 8,93,062 (8.93 Lakhs)  of which the male population is 4,46,676  and the female population is 4,46,386


The initial provisional data released by census India 2011, shows that the density of Mysore for 2011 is 3122 people per sq. km. Mysore city administers area is 286 sq. km


The average literacy rate of Mysore City in 2011 was 87.67 %. If things are looked out at gender wise, male and female literacy was 90.61% and  84.75 %. respectively. Total literate in Mysore city was 7,08,130 of which  3,65,233  are males while 3,42,897  are females.


With regards to the Sex Ratio in Mysore, it stood at 999 per 1000 males. The average national sex ratio in India is 995 as per the latest reports of Census 2011 Directorate. In the 2011 census, the child sex ratio is 958 girls per 1000 boys


In census enumeration, data regarding child under 0-6 age were also collected. There were a total of 85,346 children under the age of 0-6 years. Of total 43,582  are boys while 41,764 are girls.
