Christianity is the largest religion in Mozambique, followed by 59.8% of the population. Among Christians, Catholics have the most adherents and are followed by 30% of the population. Next comes the Zionist or Independent African Churches followed by the various Protestant Churches i.e Evangelical, Anglican, Baptist, and Methodist churches.
Islam is the second largest religion, 18.9% were Muslim. The vast majority of Mozambican Muslims are Sunni Muslims. The Muslims consist primarily of indigenous Mozambicans, citizens of South Asian (Indian and Pakistani) descent, and a small number of North African and Middle Eastern immigrants.
Traditional faiths account for 4.8%, and the remaining 13.9% are classified as unaffiliated, which can mean agnostic, atheist, or “nothing in particular.”
