Religious Demographics of Egypt (2025 Updated)

Islam is the majority religion in Egypt and the state religion of Egypt is Islam. Among Muslims, 85-95% are Sunni Muslims, with a small Mu’tazila, Shia Twelvers, and Ismailism communities making up the remainder.

Christianity is the second-largest religion in Egypt and the largest Christian community in the Middle East and North Africa standing at between 5% – 15% of Egypt’s population.  About 95% of Egypt’s Christians are members of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria (Oriental Orthodox Church)
