Religion in Azerbaijan

Islam is The majority religion in Azerbaijan and it is practiced by 96.8% of the population. Most are adherents of Shia Islam (55-65%), with a minority (35-45%) being Sunni.

Christianity is the second largest religion followed by the estimated 280,000 or (3.1%) of the population and is mostly Russian Georgian Orthodox and Armenian Apostolic. Other Christian denominations include Roman Catholics, Lutherans, Baptists, Molokans, and a small Protestant community.

Azerbaijan also has an ancient Jewish population with a 2,000-year history and estimated that 12,000 Jews reside in Azerbaijan.
