Liechtenstein officially the Principality of Liechtenstein is a German-speaking microstate situated in the Alps between Austria and Switzerland in Central Europe.  The Principality is a semi-constitutional monarchy headed by the Prince of Liechtenstein.  It is the sixth smallest nation worldwide and Europe’s fourth-smallest country, with an area of just over 160 square kilometers and a population of 38,749.

As of June 30, 2024, Liechtenstein’s total population reached 41,232, reflecting a 1.3% annual increase, slightly above the 1.0% average since 2015. The growth rate for Liechtenstein citizens was 0.7%, while foreigners increased by 1.4%. The largest rise was among those with permanent residence permits (+177), followed by protected status holders (permit S), which grew by 163 to 648, mainly due to Ukrainian refugees.
