Austria, officially the Republic of Austria, is a landlocked East Alpine country located in the southern part of Central Europe. According to Statistics Austria, the country’s population on 1 January 2025 was 9,198,214 (9.2 million).
Austria’s population increased by 0.4% during 2024, reaching 9.2 million by early 2025—slower growth compared to the previous year. Vienna recorded the strongest population rise at 1.1%, while Burgenland registered a slight decline of –0.04%. Foreign nationals accounted for 20.2% of Austria’s population, with the highest shares in Vienna (36.4%), Vorarlberg (20.9%), and Salzburg (20.8%)
