As per Census 2011, Vadodara has a population growth rate of 24.85% during 2001-2011.  It’s expected to have a population growth rate of 16% during 2011-2021.

At the start of the 20th century, the Vadodara population was one lakh people & it took 50 years to double it. After the formation of Gujarat State population saw a steady growth & reached 1 million in 1991 & around 2 million in 2022.

As per the provisional reports of Census India, the population of Vadodara City in 2011 was 1,670,806 ( 16.70 Lakhs) of which the male population is 8,69,647 and the female population is 8,01,159. 


The initial provisional data released by Census India 2011, shows that the density of Vadodara for 2011 is 6426 people per sq. km. Vadodara city administers area is 260 sq. km


The average literacy rate of Vadodara City in 2011 was 90.63%. If things are looked at gender-wise, male and female literacy was 93.83% and 87.18% respectively. The total literate in Vadodara city was 1,364,157 of which 4,23,122 are males while 3,70,238 are females.


With regards to the Sex Ratio in Vadodara, it stood at 921 per 1000 males. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per the latest reports of the Census 2011 Directorate. In the 2011 census, the child sex ratio was 852 girls per 1000 boys


In census enumeration, data regarding children under 0-6 age were also collected. There were a total of 165,559 children under the age of 0-6 years. Of the total 89,402 are boys while 76,157 are girls. Child Sex Ratio as per census 2011 was 852. In 2011, Children under 0-6 formed 9.91 % of the total population of Vadodara City
