Ranchi is the capital of the Indian state of Jharkhand, and now it is the most populous city of the state. It’s one of the largest & Fastest-growing cities in Eastern India. As per the 2011 census, It’s the second most populated city in Jharkhand after Dhanbad.

As per Census 2011, Ranchi has a population growth rate of 26.72% during 2001-2011. It’s expected to have a population growth rate of 20% during 2011-2021. In 1901 the Population of Ranchi was just 26 thousand and in the year 1951, it grew to 1 lakh people. After Independence, Ranchi saw a significant increase in its population & further accelerated after the formation of Jharkhand.

As per provisional reports of Census India, the population of Ranchi in 2011 is 1,073,427 ( 10.73 Lakhs) of which the male population is 5,58,872, and the female population is 5,14,555.
DENSITY
The initial provisional data released by Census India 2011, shows that the density of Ranchi city for 2011 is 6100 people per sq. km. Ranchi city administers an area of 175 sq. km
LITERACY RATE
The average literacy rate of Ranchi in 2011 was 87.37%. If things are looked out at gender wise, male and female literacy was 91.67% and 82.72% respectively. Total literate in Ranchi were 827,033 of which 451,069 are males while 375,964 are females.
SEX RATIO
With regards to the Sex Ratio in Ranchi, it stood at 921 per 1000 males. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per the latest reports of Census 2011 Directorate. In the 2011 census, the child sex ratio is 899 girls per 1000 boys
CHILD POPULATION
In census enumeration, data regarding child under 0-6 age were also collected. There was a total of 1,26,863 children under the age of 0-6 years. Of total 66,793 are boys while 60,070 are girls. Child Sex Ratio as per census 2011 was 899. In 2011, Children under 0-6 formed 11.82 % of the total population of Ranchi City.

Ranchi district is one of the 24 districts of Jharkhand, India. As per the census, 2011 Ranchi District population is 2,914,253 (29.14 Lakk) of which 1,494,937 are males and 1,419,316 are females. The literacy rate is 76.06% & the Male-Female Sex ratio is 949.
